Independent thinking and informed judgement

My interests extend across the practical questions leaders face: how organisations create value, how technology changes work, what customer economics reveal and how people respond to uncertainty.

I use my public writing to examine those questions and invite discussion. A perspective can be useful without settling every aspect of an issue. Its value lies in making assumptions visible, encouraging constructive challenge and helping readers consider another angle.

Leadership, people and accountability

Explore published pieces on shared accountability, leadership responsibility, bias, diversity and the way teams work together. These themes connect with my experience of organisational change and my belief that values become meaningful through behaviour.

The questions are relevant to boards as well as management: how do we recognise the limits of our judgement, distinguish responsibility from circumstance and build an organisation in which people can contribute effectively?

Technology and commercial performance

Other articles examine technology implementation, customer acquisition and the relationship between commercial performance and enterprise value. They reflect my interest in connecting technical and analytical capability with the business decisions it is intended to support.

Economic and social context — historical commentary

The archive also includes previously published commentary on inflation, interest rates, employment, markets and social issues. These pieces should be read in their original publication context. Their inclusion does not present earlier economic assessments or forecasts as current conditions.

The archive below links to the original publications so readers can consider each piece in its original context, including its date, argument and discussion.
